April 2007

We went over to Normandy briefly just after the work had started on the long roof, to check that everything was happening.

Last year we attempted using a British builder, working in France, to patch the roof to stop it leaking. Spending a fair amount of money and grief trying to get the builder to finish the job, we decided to cut our losses and find a decent French roofer. We found a French roofer who had worked in the UK and spoke English. He was working on Versailles, so he came highly recommended! He was able to show us photos of the work he had previously done and gave us a Devis (an agreed and detailed costing for the work).

We paid the roofer 30% of total costs for materials in advance. This was paid by French cheque, which was cashed shortly after work started.
